Plumbing in Tazewell County, IL means three kinds of housing under one name: river-side homes in East Peoria and Pekin, established streets in Morton and Washington, and farmhouses on county roads. Our base at 309 Wilshire Dr is in Washington, inside the county, so every drive on this page starts at home. Pekin, the county seat, is the long end of the trip at about 19 miles.
What Tazewell County's River, Bluffs and Farmland Do to Pipes
Tazewell County spans 658 square miles, but most of its 131,343 residents live along its western edge near the Illinois River. That is where the housing is oldest and the water table is highest. East Peoria sits near 502 feet, Washington near 758, and everything in between drains downhill toward the river.
Four patterns follow from that, and each calls for different work:
- River side. In East Peoria and Pekin, groundwater and old flood history make sump pumps and sewer backups the main calls.
- Established streets. Morton and Washington have mature trees and older laterals, and Washington has 13% of its homes from 1939 or earlier.
- Rebuilt streets. The November 2013 EF4 tornado destroyed hundreds of Washington homes, and many were rebuilt from 2014 on, so new pipe often sits beside decades-old neighbors.
- Farm roads. Houses past the town limits are on wells and septic. The Tazewell County Health Department in Tremont is the local office for those, issuing permits and sampling private wells, and tank pumping is a separate licensed trade from the pipe work we do.
The water changes along the same lines. East Peoria's 2025 report credits eleven wells in the Sankoty-Mahomet Aquifer and lists hardness at 28 grains per gallon, while Morton and Washington run their own systems. Spring Lake, 8.5 miles long beside the Illinois River, shows how much of the county's west side is river bottom. January lows near 16°F at Washington reach every one of these houses.

Working From Washington: Roads and Who Owns the Pipe
Interstate 74 and US 150 connect Morton and East Peoria, Route 8 links Washington to East Peoria, and US 24 carries traffic past Washington. We choose the road on the day, since a flooded underpass or a closed bridge changes the answer.
Ownership follows the town, not the county. Each village, city or water district owns its own mains, and the lateral from your house to the main is normally yours. Gas splits the same way: Morton's Public Works runs its own distribution, and Ameren Illinois serves much of the area. For a well or septic permit question outside town, Environmental Health in Tremont is at 309-929-0272. Before anyone opens a wall in your house, ask for the plumber's license number and verify it through the IDPH lookup.

“Monte and Hunter came out on a Sunday (morning no less!) to help us with a mess from a backed up sewer. Lots of roots! They used two different sized cutters with a monster snake and cleaned it out all the way to the city sewer. We'd had another "sewer service" a few weeks ago and the experience was night and day different. I definitely recommend them.”
“Gary at Professional Sewer & Drain Services successfully bailed me out of a backed up sewer multiple times. Great guy and reasonable rates - very trustworthy!”
“Called at 4pm, clean out was finished by 7:30! Very reasonably priced. Monty was great!”
